Sidney looks down at her test results, feeling relieved. The test results say she is going to be a teacher. Sidney is thrilled, as she has wanted to be a teacher her whole life. She couldn't imagine doing anything else with her life. She realizes that her nerves before the CPA exam were just that: nerves. The system would never, and could never, fail her. She left her guidance counselor with a renewed faith in the system the Creators made, ready to enter her specialized university!
Sidney's guidance counselor was happy to see the weight of worry lifted off of Sidney's shoulders, and felt a sense of pride for playing a role in that. Every year, a few students were steered down the wrong pathway by the CPA. This year, Sidney had been one of those students. Her guidance counselor was alarmed to see Sidney's results say she was destined to be an accountant, as Sidney greatly disliked math and lacked profieciency in higher-level math concepts. However, Sidney's guidance counselor knew a loophole in the CPA and she used this to quickly fix Sidney's result. Sidney had spent many an hour in her guidance counselor's office, talking passionately about how she hoped the CPA would designate her as a teacher. These loopholes gave Sidney's guidance counselor a sense of purpose, allowing her to feel that she played a role in shaping the lives of her students.
What no one knew was that these loopholes were built into the algorithm by the Creators. These “loopholes” were carefully planted by the Creators to make the system feel more human. It gave members of the older generation the illusion of choice, and it gave the younger generation complete faith in the new way society ran. In the new society, the Creators believed purpose was of the utmost value to its success.
